When I hear a rap song, I pay more attention to the beat than to the lyrics

In my case I'll get caught with the beat then I'll transition to try to comprehend what the lyrics mean and the purpose of the song. I think when you listen to any type of music you should listen to the lyrics because that gives the direction of the song and what the message is giving out. Also, you sometimes catch yourself not caring about songs but know every lyric. Which I think its scary because its imprinted in your mind and you not even consciously knowing what your saying. I just feel that American Society is distorted in so many ways.
